Postcards from the Road
I love finding unique road signs. It’s a tiny glimpse into local culture, whether that’s knowing what local (animal) residents to look out for or understanding the local (human) resident’s mindset. Road signs direct you where (or where not) to go but more importantly warn you what to expect up ahead.
Maybe that’s why I like road signs so much — because they tell you what’s in the future and give you the sense of control knowing what’s to come. But sometimes you have no clue what’s next and how to navigate the journey ahead. I recently published a journal entry, originally written last summer, about the loneliness of navigating the early stages of my diagnosis.
However the below signs do tell you what to look out for and are a lot more fun. It’s a collection taken from a road trip from Cairns to Cape Tribulation in Queensland. I hope you enjoy the local Aussie culture (and humor!).
