Accountability Party
Hi! Long time no see. It’s been exactly a month (in month math, not number math, aka the last day of the month) since I’ve last posted.
I came across a concept on Instagram called an accountability party. It’s when someone hosts a gathering at their home, complete with nibbles and bibbles, and everyone brings something they’ve been meaning to do but just haven’t quite gotten around to doing it, whether that’s doing their taxes (me), submitting healthcare claims (me), or actually reactivating their dating profile (also 🙋🏻♀️). You share your task so that others in the party can hold you accountable, and then you sit and get that shit done, but surrounded in a supportive environment with people who will care and hold you accountable.
I’m doing this in micro doses (whilst also sharing this concept with others in the hopes that they will host!) and creative ways: my friends at the bakery helped me swipe (the manscape out there is looking a bit bleak) and I’m hosting my solo accountability party right now, on this blog.
I really enjoyed writing about my 30 day projects because 1) it was a set amount of time to work on something and 2) writing about it — documenting it — kept me accountable. And what do you know, it’s the end of the month which means a new month (and a new 30-ish days) are about to appear, but we’re not going to get started on how it’s almost already August because then slight panic will set in), so here’s my 30 day project.
Write on the blog for 5 minutes a day (the blog, not the Word document or physical journal). It can be a single post, and add-on to a work-in-progress, or an assembly of photographs — what matters is that I spend 5 minutes, and the timer is there to verify. Why this? Because I genuinely miss writing yet have not prioritised it.
Go up into wheel (gymnastics bridge) every day. Photo will be taken for proof. Why this? To help with back flexibility and mobility (and bonus if extra stretching goes in as well.
Alright friends — hold me accountable! And send some bubbles my way too, if you’d like.
P.S. You may be wondering about that cover photo on this post — it’s our latest creation (okay fine, not mine but Home Croissanterie’s) to celebrate citrus season: earl grey twist topped with a crème brûlée vanilla cream and garnished with blood oranges. It’s what was happening as I held myself accountable to dipping my toe back into the dating world.
